About us
I'm Claire, I'm 46, and Artemis Clo is the wardrobe I spent years looking for. I'm the woman these pieces are chosen for, and chosen with. Before anything goes on the shop, the question is a simple one: would I actually reach for it on an ordinary Tuesday?
My Tuesdays are not glamorous. A brisk walk before the day starts, a lot of standing about, a train that is late more often than not, and dinner with friends who notice shoes. I want to look put-together for all of it, and I want my feet to still be speaking to me at six o'clock.
In the old Greek stories, Artemis was the goddess of the moon. She went where she pleased, on her own two feet, by a clear light, and nobody told her what to wear. I liked her for that. So the shop borrowed her name, and her crescent.
It is not a collection "for your age", and it is not clothes cut for a twenty-five-year-old and simply sized up. It is for women who already know what suits them and are tired of hunting for it.
You will know this afternoon. The pretty boots pinch by lunchtime. The comfortable pair looks like something you would wear to dig the garden. The dress that fits your hips gapes at the shoulders, and the one that fits your shoulders clings everywhere else. The boot shaft that will not close over your calf, however hard you pull the zip. You close the tab, and you wear the old favourites again.
Boots and shoes I can slip on and walk in, all day, not just from the car to the table. Soft fabrics that drape rather than cling. Midi lengths. Easy layers I can take off when the room gets warm, because the room always gets warm.
And the measurements, written down. The width of a shoe, the height and circumference of a boot shaft, a size guide in centimetres and inches. I would rather read two lines before I order than send a parcel back afterwards.
Looking good should not need a special occasion or a special budget. The prices stay honest, the offers sit on the page where you can see them, and you should never have to hunt for a code to get a fair deal.
I would rather you bought three pieces you love wearing than one you are afraid to take out of the wardrobe.
